From 6–10 October 2025, 25 female university leaders from 16 countries gathered at the University of Potsdam to launch the DIES LEADx 2025/2026 Programme. The in-person workshop marked the start of an inspiring journey to strengthen female leadership and gender equityin higher education worldwide.
Implemented by the University of Potsdam under the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES) programme — jointly coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) — LEADx supports women in senior management positions from South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Over five days, participants explored leadership strategies, mentoring practices, and change management tools. They began developing their Change Initiatives — real-world projects aimed at tackling institutional barriers and promoting diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in their home universities.
The workshop also fostered a strong sense of community among participants, who, despite coming from diverse regions and contexts, share common challenges in navigating structural barriers and promoting inclusive leadership. Discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration, peer support, and collective action to drive change – for this and the next generation of women leaders.
LEADx 2025/2026 is more than a leadership programme — it’s a platform for women to connect, collaborate, and lead transformation in higher education worldwide.
The next milestone of the programme will take place in March 2026, when Cohort 1 and Cohort 2 will meet for the first time. This joint event will offer a unique opportunity for cross-cohort exchange and networking, as Cohort 2 concludes its journey and Cohort 1 takes its next steps in developing their Change Initiatives.
